PM Question of the Week - week 42 2014

Dear colleague, welcome to our "PM question of the week" newsletter for week 42 2014

Project Managers often see risk everywhere... so let's test your project risk management knowledge with this week PMP question:

You are managing a project for the construction of a new highway tunnel. In order to mitigate an hydrogeological risk the team elaborates a response plan that includes the excavation of a draining gallery. How would you define the risk related to the excavation of the draining gallery?
a. Secondary risk.
b. Accepted risk.
c. Residual risk.
d. Transferred risk.

Answer to question and explanation

The correct answer is a. Secondary risk.

Explanation: The questions does not say anything about the risk management strategy for the risk related to the excavation of the draining gallery, therefore it is impossible to say whether it has been accepted or transferred (answers b. and d.). Residual risk is the risk that remains after risk responses are in place, while secondary risk is the risk that arises from a (primary) risk response, therefore a. Secondary risk is the correct answer.
